YWCA is a membership organization and it relies on the support and voice of its members to achieve its mission. Membership is an investment in the lives of all those who benefit from the YW’s programs and services, and in the long term, an investment towards creating a better community. Membership is required for all program participation and also offers members the following tangible benefits:

• Use of the YWCA Yonkers’ facilities in accordance with Agency Policy and fees
• Voting privileges at the YWCA’s Business meetings
• Opportunities to contribute and participate in local, regional and national YWCA events and activities and to have a voice in public policy and advocacy issues
• Receipt of the Association’s mailings
• Opportunities to participate in programs and services of YWCA’s in the US, subject to each association’s policies and fees.

In line with the American tradition of volunteerism, Yonkers YWCA encourages good citizenship by offering community members meaningful opportunities for civic engagement through volunteer service in whatever capacity they are able in every aspect of the Agency. The YWCA is thus a place to experience the personal reward of helping others while sharing and / or discovering one’s own talents and interests. Volunteers may choose to bring cheer to senior citizens, make minor renovations to the building, help in our day-care programs or summer camp, help prepare various publications or assist with fundraising initiatives.

Whether professionals, retired individuals, students, welfare to work participants or seniors, volunteers make an extraordinary difference in people’s lives. Volunteer Opportunities include:

• Mentoring a woman or children, infants to 18 years of age
• Facilities/Gardening
• Life Skills Workshops
• Teach a skill/craft
• Public Relations, Fundraising & Special Events
• Donate time or resources to the Food Pantry &/or My Sister’s Closet
• Transportation
• Board Membership
