The YWCA of Yonkers celebrates the accomplishments of women during the month of March by selecting a presentation that will focus on the issues women face both Nationally and Internationally. During March, 2003 we were delighted to host a blue ribbon panel presentation on "The Effects of Militarism on Women: A Social, Political, and Economic Perspective."

There is a true sense of "holiday spirit" as people from all faiths are welcomed to transform our lobby into a joyous, warm inviting dwelling. Volunteers share the memories of the past "Hanging of the Greens" events while devoting their time. Hence, the creation of another memory to be shared next year. Week Without Violence
The Week Without Violence is a YWCA of the U.S.A. national initiative designed to raise social awareness on the effects of violence in our communities. The weeklong event challenges people to imagine a world without violence, and to together contemplate and take steps that will result in positive change. YWCA of Yonkers hosts a variety of activities to mark the week. Various presenters are invited and literature is offered. We also participate in the "Clothesline Project", a vehicle allowing victims of domestic violence to tell their stories through art and in written form on the displayed T-Shirts. The Clothesline hangs in our lobby for an entire week and women are invited to create and submit a T-Shirt to add to the display.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Event
Throughout the month of October Breast Cancer awareness has been marked as a National effort to increase knowledge, and to invite individuals to join the fight against a disease that effects so many. The YWCA of Yonkers hosted an educational buffet offering a panel that addressed the physical and emotional issues for both the individual and the family.
