YWCA Yonkers Childcare

Quality Child Care and Preschool

The YWCA Child Development Center is a comprehensive and holistic child care program that seeks to lay a firm foundation to help children develop to their highest potential. Our approach to reach our children is more than any other community organization offers. Licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to serve 51 children ages 2 months to 12 years, the program offers full-scale services that include an anti-bias curriculum, developmentally appropriate educational activities, three daily meals prepared on site and outdoor and indoor activities. The program operates all year round and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 6:00PM.

Quality, Affordable Child Care

Infants

Focused on Nurturing (age 6 weeks to 18 months):

The YWCA Child Development Center is dedicated to fostering a warm and nurturing atmosphere where children can flourish in their early development. By providing a supportive environment, the center encourages not only cognitive growth but also emotional and social skill-building among young learners. With a focus on holistic development, educators at the YWCA understand that each child is unique, tailoring activities and learning experiences to meet individual needs. This approach helps children build confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning, laying a solid foundation for their future success.

Wilfred Dennis

Director, Childcare

My role is to sustain a true professional learning environment for all children to benefit from. I also believe that in my role, I am responsible in making sure that I encourage all of my teachers to look at each day as a new day to deliver the best lesson for all of our children to learn from and to later on share their experiences, through writing, drawing, discussions along with putting on shows for our parents and family to see that all of our children are learning many great things while being enrolled in our program. I am encouraged in my role to be the best role model for not only our children but even for our parents as well. My role is to support both parent and child. At the end of the day in my professional opinion, my role it to educate our children to be their very best and to always lead by example.

How long have you been with the YWCA Yonkers and what has been your greatest accomplishment?

October 5, 2017, we launched a program called through WestCop named "Babies Step Forward" "Is a unique Early Head Start program that provides high quality early child care and education with related support services for children age 6 weeks to 3 years old." Many of our children already have benefited from this program and many of our parents are very pleased about the program.

What are your future plans to strengthen your department?

To bring in other programs to support and enhance the learning that takes place in both day care and in our after school program. I would like to do family engagements along with doing more shows to show case what our children are learning while in our program.

What are 3 things you would like the public to know about your department?

First, Everyone who works directly with our children are all trained in dealing with our children starting from the youngest which is 6 weeks to 12 years old. Second, we feed our children three meals a day following strict guidelines from CACFP. Three, we are all very passionate about our job and the well being of all our children here at the YWCA and in our community.

How can others support your mission?

We believe that all infants are born ready to learn. Provide a loving based relationship early with your child. Encourage their growth by providing a stimulating age appropriate environment filled with love and positive reinforcements. Always be an advocate for your child and their future.
